English Language – Why must you learn and master the English language?

Today, the English language is one of the most widely spoken language out of all world languages. English is used for business purposes all over the world globally. English also dominates today’s alternative media, the Internet. Almost 90% of information found on the Internet are written in English or has the ‘translate to English’ function. English is also made the second language of some of the most significant countries for instance, the Middle Eastern Countries, Argentina and Russia. These are just a few examples of just how globalize the language has become. Now that you know the importance of the language, master it! People often claim that English is not an easy language to learn or to become skilled at. Consequently, if you do these simple rules stated here in your everyday life, you will be an expert of the language in no time! However, you must remember that learning any language, takes time. It is a gradual process and does not happen overnight. Follow the tips and do it regularly

• Make learning a permanent habit.
Take at least 10 minutes to put in effort to learn a new word everyday. This can be done either by reading or listening to the news. Make sure it is a consistent and on-going process as our brains do not have permanent memory storage. You have to refresh your memory by repeating what you learnt the previous day.


• Love to read!
Read all the English materials you can find around the house. Materials can range from newspapers, magazines, story books to English sources available on the Internet. Daily reading helps you enhance your vocabulary by learning new words as well as improve your grammar because when you read, you learn how and when to use words. If the content of the materials are too complex and hard to understand, start small by reading children’s story books. That should give you a headtstart.

• Make Use of the Internet.
The web as we all know is huge. You can find anything you want anytime you want with just a click on your mouse. Hence, use it as much as you want. Use services like the online dictionaries available.

Read foreign news from credible websites like the Cable News Network (CNN). It is always updated every hour of the day, thus providing you with more information as well as giving you more reason to read.

You may also improve your pronunciation skills as there are so many English learning websites that provide videos of people teaching you how to speak and pronounce words the right way. Video streaming features like YouTube is also a good method of learning the language as it has lots of good videos regarding education and speech training.

There are also new gadgets nowadays for instance podcasts. There are free podcasts provided which contributes to learning the language online and it is available for download purposes.

• Watch a lot of English shows or Movies!
Watch English language shows whenever you can. This will help you learn how to speak the language. This method will give you the chance to learn when to use what tenses and how to structure your sentences using the right grammatical structure.

• Keep a journal!
If you already have a diary or a journal at home, try writing your personal details or life stories in English instead of any other language you are good at. If you find it hard to express your viewpoints and opinions, then start by writing your thoughts in whichever language you usually write in and try translating it to English. It may be difficult at first but you will get the hang of it in a few days. Translating a language you are familiar with to a language you are learning is one of the best ways to help you understand the language.


All of the above are things that you can do at home if you really want to be an expert in this language. However, whether these methods help you in your cause or not, depends entirely and solely on your efforts at home. Put in effort and you will definitely notice how your language command has improved.
